Orchid Open House

When: February 27 through March 1, 2009 (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.)

What: Orchid lectures, potting demonstrations, hundreds of orchids in full bloom

If you’re getting spring fever and need a dose of gorgeous blossoms, come to our Orchid Open House. We’ll be giving free mini lectures, and we’ll be on hand to answer your specific orchid questions. Don’t forget your camera!

Apple Blossom Tour

When: May (usually)

What: A self-guided walk through the hillside orchard.

At Stony Hill Gardens, May is a beautiful month, especially when our dwarf apple trees are in full bloom. The trees don’t bloom all at once. We planted apple varieties that will ripen at different times in the fall, so the trees bloom at different times, too. In 2003, the apple trees were in bloom in late May. This spring, their time of bloom will depend on the weather. Stop by or give us a call and ask if the apple trees are blooming. They make a beautiful sight on the hillside. Bring your cameras. You won’t want to miss it!

Pick-Your-Own Strawberries

When: Early June (usually)

What: We have 2 acres of strawberries for picking. There’s nothing like picking plump, juicy, sun-warmed strawberries right off the plant... Take them home and eat them fresh, in milk, on ice cream, in strawberry shortcake, strawberry bread or strawberry pie. Mmmmmm!!

Pick-Your-Own Apples

When: August 30 (or so) to late September

What: We have several varieties of apples for picking. The trees are loaded with fruit, and because they are dwarf trees, the picking is easy. Call ahead for variety availability and picking conditions: (908) 879-2696.

Pick-a-Pumpkin Hayrides

When: Weekends from mid September to Halloween, plus Columbus Day

What: Hay wagon rides to the pumpkin patch

In the fall, come to Stony Hill Gardens for a hayride ($3 per person) out to the pumkin patch. We also have red wagons available for hauling kids and pumpkins. Groups of 20 or more can schedule a hayride by calling (908) 879-2908.
